Bust of Captain Burago
Plovdiv, Dondukov garden Park
Work on the project began around 1967, and the opening took place on 03.03.1969. The monument is located in the “Dondukov Garden” park in the central part of Plovdiv.
Viktor Todorov made the bust from black marble and according to classical rules. The pride, dignity and firmness of expression and gaze are extremely impressive. The height with the pedestal and the bust is over 3 meters. On the side, on the right, there is a stone sign with a commemorative inscription.
Alexander Petrovich Burago was a hereditary nobleman from Russia, a participant in the Russian-Turkish War. He prevented the massacre of the Christian population and the burning of the city of Plovdiv. For the liberation of Plovdiv, the 25-year-old Captain Burago was promoted to the rank of colonel and awarded the George Cross for bravery. Honorary citizen of Plovdiv.
Every year at this place there is a gathering, offering of wreaths and a solemn speech.
